Lady Warriors Rebound After Loss to Top Ten Team
After being named #5 in the nation in the January 14 NCCAA Coaches Poll, the Lady Warriors took on the #3 ranked Ozark Ambassadors. In a tough game where scoring in the first half was difficult, the Warriors fell 56-84. Ruthie Dougherty led the team with 17 points, 4 steals, and 2 assists, followed by Katie Williams with 15 points, 2 steals, and 5 rebounds; and Tyonna Garcia with 12 points, 3 steals, and 3 rebounds.
Even with the difficult loss, the Warriors bounced back with two quick MCCC conference wins. Overcoming a 16-26 halftime score, the Lady Warriors made a huge comeback to defeat the Barclay Bears 51-39. Katie McGee led the team in scoring with 13 points, followed by Kaitlyn Zamora with 12. Then, the Warriors took on the Manhattan Thunder, coming out on top 61-51. Ruthie Dougherty led the team in scoring with 20 points, followed by Katie Williams with 17.
The Lady Warriors improve to 11-2 on the season and 5-1 in conference play. They will go on the road to Ankeny, Iowa, this weekend to take on two more conference teams: the Emmaus University Eagles and the Faith Baptist Bible College Eagles.
