The Calvary Warriors triumphed over Faith Baptist Bible College 54-38 in the third-place game this afternoon in the MCCC Conference Tournament. It was a defensive masterpiece as the Eagles were held to only 38 points on 23% shooting for the day. Today’s game was the third time both teams have matched up already this season with Faith winning both earlier matchups. The Warriors came into the game today with a lot of confidence as their young team continues to gain momentum.
Calvary struggled some in the first half on the glass as well as missing some uncommon free throws. Faith went in at the half up seven in the rebounding battle, but down 27-14 because the different defensive looks and hard-nosed CU defense was making it hard for them to get shots off.
At the half, the Warriors talked about continuing their defensive pressure, but focusing on the rebounding battle and free throws. The team came out for the third quarter and executed the 2nd half game plan well. They shot 14/16 from the line for the second half and took away the rebounding advantage that Faith had in the first half. The game ended with both teams having 36 boards.
“Holding the conference MVP to only six points today was huge,” said head coach Robby Bollinger. “We held both of their all-conference players to eleven points combined. On the offensive side of the ball Kimberlee and Ruthie were absolutely clutch from the line today.”
Next up the Warriors will face AFLBS on Friday in Ankeny, IA.
