HAVILAND, KS – October 14, 2017 – Calvary University men’s soccer team (2-6-2, 1-3-1 MCCC) played in Haviland, KS on Saturday against conference foe, Barclay College. This was the second meeting between the two teams this year. In the previous match, Calvary and Barclay tied 2-2, so both teams came into this game knowing it was going to be a tight matchup.
The Bears of Barclay were coming off of a 3-2 victory over Ozark Christian the day before and the Calvary Warriors were coming off their own 3-2 victory in an overtime thriller against Lincoln Christian. Both teams came out strong, as both teams scored early. Calvary scoring first in the 6th minute off the right foot of Mark Rodenberg, assisted by Masaki Ouchi. Then Barclay broke through and scored a laser of a goal in the 12th minute by Kendrick Taylor. Both teams put multiple shots on keepers but were not able to muster another goal in the first half. As the second half started both teams were looking to get the game winning goal. Calvary took 12 shots and Barclay shot 8 times just in the second half and overtime combined, but either team were able to score the game winning goal. The game ended in a 1-1 tie. Calvary had a total of 20 shots, 7 corner kicks and Barclay had 14 shots and 4 corner kicks for the game.
Both Mark Rodenberg and Nate Her both had 6 shots and Masaki Ouchi had 2 shots. Seth Bielenberg had 2 saves for the match. Calvary’s next game will be at home against Kansas Christian College on Tuesday, October 17th.
