Calvary University is pleased to announce the appointment of Tressa Shoemaker as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach for 2016-2017. Coach Shoemaker brings strong experience with coaching women successfully at the college level. She served as an assistant coach for Calvary from 2002-2007. Shoemaker went on to have five successful years at the helm of the Warriors from 2007-2012. During that time she led her teams to two semi-final appearances in the ACCA National Tournament.
“Tressa Shoemaker is an excellent hire for Calvary University,” Athletic Director Jeanette Regier said. “Coach Shoemaker brings a wealth of successful experience to the Calvary community. She is an excellent teacher and innovator of the game of basketball. Her basketball and academic background will blend well with the entire campus. Coach Shoemaker is a perfect fit for what we’re trying to accomplish here.”
Before coaching, Shoemaker played basketball at Calvary University. She received the Offensive Player of the Year Award as well as Second Team All-Conference, before a career-ending knee injury. The Tucson, Arizona, native graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biblical Counseling from Calvary University. Shoemaker earned her MS in Physical Education from Emporia State University in 2016.
“Coach Shoemaker will help our students get to the next level. Tressa knows that her life purpose is to use athletics to encourage ladies to become godly women. She firmly believes that Christians should do everything for the glory of God. She understands how to apply this philosophy to her players and her coaching staff. We’re fortunate to hire a coach that wants her faith to collide with her passion,” said Regier.
Shoemaker also serves as the Dean of Online Studies at Calvary University. She enjoys hiking, biking, fishing, and playing with her nieces in her free time.
