The Lady Warriors came out of a match against the Faith Baptist Bible College Eagles with a 3-2 victory at home. This was the third meeting of the season between the two teams, making it the third victory of the Warriors over the Eagles. The Lady Warriors came out of the first set with a 25-18 win. “Our aggressive serving in the first set is what really made the difference in that first set,” stated Coach Spicer. Along with the Warriors excellent serving, they came out of the first set with a hitting percentage of 36, making it one of the best team hitting percentages in a single set.
The Warriors were looking to continue the momentum from the first set, but dropped the second set to the Eagles due to service errors as well as struggles with passing. The Lady Warriors bounced right back in the third set, with a 25-21 victory by improving their serving as well as increasing intensity in hitting. “Going into the third set we really worked on being more purposeful with where we were attacking in addition to speeding up our offense in order to beat Faith’s defense,” Coach Spicer stated. The Warriors once again struggled with passing in the 4th set, allowing the Eagles to come out on top 25-22 to take it to a 5th set.
With only one serving error in the 5th set, the Lady Warriors were able to take control of the game. And come out of the 5th set with a 15-11 victory. Anna Holloway led the way for the team in hitting with 18 kills. Jenny Her ended the night with 25 digs while Kennedy Shelton made a difference with 21 assists. “Tonight we really improved defensively as a team,” said Coach Spicer. “We did a much better job tonight of anticipating where the ball was going and positioning ourself accordingly.”
Calvary University will next play Manhattan Christian College at home on Tuesday.
